Urgent Powder Blue News

I know all of you are breathlessly awaiting the release of the Jessica Biel epic "Powder Blue," about a "down-on-her-luck single mother stripper with a heart of gold" whose life intersects with others on Christmas Eve, year unknown (and unnecessary!). The movie also stars Forest Whitaker, Ray Liotta, Patrick Swayze, Eddie Redmayne and Kris Kristofferson, but the focus is understandably on Biel because she has chosen to announce herself as an actress in the only way she knows how, as a stripper.

According to this article, the movie, which was once scheduled to open on limited release (that just means NYC and LA) on April 24th, will now open May 8th and be released to DVD the next month. I am shocked (SHOCKED!) that this movie, a blatant ripoff of the Crash format which has been so misused since its premiere and success, would be a Direct-to-DVDer. That being said, I am still bursting at the seams, because now perchaps I can see the movie in the theaters and then only have to wait a month to buy it! Win win win!

For further information about Powder Blue click on the tag below. It will direct you to my previous posts that include more pictures and the trailer (which puts the word epic to shame).

A Stripper Smackdown Redux

A few months ago, after watching Striptease with Demi Moore for the first time and receiving Showgirls: The Ultimate Edition as a gift, I decided to compare the two movies and see which was indeed the ultimate stripper movie. After a hard fought fight, Showgirls was the victor. After endlessly scouring the internets, I have found these two clips of the movies that help illustrate my point. The first clip is of Striptease, showing one of the many scenes involving Demi dancing to an Annie Lennox song, as well as the classy but not stripper-esque outfits. The second clip is of my favorite scene in Showgirls, when Nomi (Elizabeth Berkley) is training to be in the Vegas show "Goddess." Ironically, the Striptease clip is more NSFW than the Showgirls one. Please enjoy.

Spinal Tap News!

A few blog posts ago I mentioned that the trio Spinal Tap (Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer) from the legendary movie "This is Spinal Tap" would be touring this spring "Unwigged and Unplugged." Today, I not only found this clip of the trio on Leno, but I looked on Ticketmaster and found the schedule of when they are playing. Enjoy!

Urgent Powder Blue News

Powder Blue is the new surefire hit coming out this year starring Ray Liotta, Forrest Whitaker and Jessica Biel, the latter playing a "down-on-her-luck uneducated single mom stripping to make payments to save her terminally ill son." Now, if this doesn't scream "sleeper summer blockbuster" to you than maybe you can't read.

Here is the video showing her confessional to Access Hollywood about "how much respect" she has for the strippers now that she has trained for this film, and this video includes footage of her "getting into character" aka grinding on the floor and making artsy fartsy movements whilst standing on fabrics. I love seeing Jessica talk about her character so earnestly before this movie is released, knowing that unless a miracle flies out of the sky it will not do well.

I love this movie so much already because even though I gave up watching movie trailers this year as a belated New Year's resolution (if you want reasons email me) this hasn't stopped me from watching this trailer between 10 and 20 times for no particular reason other than sadism. According to the article linked to above, Jessica has a contract with the producers of the movie where they can't show her nipples (she's one of those strippers. That only exist in movies.), but, as you can see clearly in the trailer, you can see approximately 95% of her vagina when she does a common "open legs" stripper move. I think that this is designed to show she's willing to do anything to save her son, except for showing her nipples. If I were a famous movie actress and had already showed my nipples several years ago I probably would have no problem showing my tots on screen, since everyone has nipples (some more than two!) but I would perhaps have an issue (just one) of the showing of my chotchky.

In case you haven't seen the trailer, here it is for your viewing pleasure:
